Finisher barn in Oxford has PED

A hog finishing barn in Oxford County has come down with Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus.

It’s the 57th case this year.

The first was in January and there was a rash of outbreaks, about 17 if the earliest ones attributed to nursery-pig rations, during the winter months.

The pace of outbreaks ground to a halt during the summer, mainly because the virus cannot survive hot summer days.

It’s coming back now that colder weather has returned. The Oxford County case is the second within a week and the third since July.
