Ontario chicken board to consult on increased production

The Chicken Farmers of Ontario marketing board is launching a round of consultations to gather opinions about how it ought to allocate production increases it expects to gain from the national Chicken Farmers of Canada.

The national agency recently adopted a new policy on allocating growth in the market. Under that policy, Ontario and Alberta will begin to gain a larger percentage of the growth than they were gaining under the old system which kept on dividing national production into historic provincial market shares.

The consultation meetings will include district meetings with quota holders, meetings with stakeholders and meetings open to the general public.

There will no doubt be strong representations from small flock owners who have been lobbying for an increase from 300 to 2,5000 birds farmers can produce annually without having to own quota.
