Consumers want DNA labels

Most respondents in the January Oklahoma State University Food Demand Survey said they supported mandatory country of origin labels for meat (86.5 percent).

“But then again, 80 percent said they support mandatory labels on foods containing DNA,” reports Meatingplace Magazine.

No, I am not joking.

The question was an ad hoc question about consumers’ level of support for various government policies.

Consumers were most supportive of COOL, that school lunches require at least two servings of fruits and vegetables, and labels on foods produced through genetic engineering.

They were least supportive of bans on trans fats, sales of marijuana and a tax on sugared sodas.
