The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has shut down a Quebec
maple syrup producer because it failed to properly clean and sanitize its
equipment.
The CFIA “has suspended the
registration of Establishment 3514, Cedar Grove Farm S.E.N.C., a maple syrup
producer located in Inverness, Quebec, effective April 14, 2016,” the agency
says on its website today.
“Cedar Grove Farm S.E.N.C. will not be
able to resume operations until it has fully implemented the necessary
corrective actions and the CFIA
is confident in the facility's capacity to effectively manage food safety
risks,” the agency says.
I've never heard of government officials shutting down a maple syrup business. Maybe this is a sign of things to come.
