More than 250 members of the Chicken Farmers of Ontario
marketing board contributed more than 175,000 kilograms of chicken to food
banks last year.
The board is urging members to top that total this year.
It offers an additional 700 kilograms of
production rights per year for those who donate to the program.
The marketing board arranges for revenue from processors to
be directed to the Ontario Association of Food Banks, or to a local food bank
of the grower’s choice.
They receive a charitable-donation tax receipt the following
year.
Other marketing boards, including those for milk, pork and
eggs, also run food-bank donation programs.
