Alfalfa weevils hitting Niagara and Haldimand

Dupont-Pioneer has issued an alert that alfalfa weevils are showing up in devastating numbers in hay fields in the Niagara Region and Haldimand County.

It’s advising farmers to scout their fields and to harvest hay early if they find three or more worms per stem.

Early harvesting can reduce damage by 95 to 98 per cent.

But if they are left to their munching, they can destroy the crop.
