German dairy farmers buy almost all of their soybean meal
from North and South America, and much of it is GMO varieties.
“It (Europe) is the biggest market for these products
(soybeans and soy meal) and Germany is Europe’s largest dairy producer,” writes
Peter Eggers, National Farmers Union co-ordinator for the Peace River Region of
northern Alberta and British Columbia.
“It could be like a warning signal – grow what the market
wants,” writes Eggers, adding that it might have an impact on both soybean and
canola markets.
