Dr. Donald
Buckingham has been chosen the new chief executive officer of the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute.
He
takes over from David McInnes who held the position for eight years.
Until
recently, Buckingham was the chairman of Canada’s Agricultural Review Tribunal
for eight years. He was in Lyon, France, this week to speak to an international
conference on law and food.
Buckingham
says the institute should have a new strategic direction which is to unlock the
growth potential of Canadian agri-food, while responding to the need for
advancing sustainable environmental practice and improving farm income.
Last month John
Scott, former chief executive
officer of the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers, took over from Ted
Bilyea as chairman of the board.
Deborah
Stark, who retired last year as deputy of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture,
Food and Rural Affairs, was elected to the board of directors.
Also
elected was Chantelle Donahue who is the vice-president and commercial seed manager
for Cargill's Global Edible Oil Solutions-Specialties (GEOS-S).
