It has asked the Chicken Farmers of Ontario for information
about how its advisory committee operates, CFO chairman Ed Benjamins revealed
during testimony on another matter at a public hearing of the Ontario Ministry
of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Appeal Tribunal.
The commission is considering an advisory committee that
would have representatives from its members, which are both farmers and
hatcheries, from the chicken board and from an association representing chicken
processors, Benjamins said.
The chicken board has also recently established a special
committee to study chick supply issues and to make recommendations to the
board.
There is also widespread chatter in the chicken industry
about proposals to launch new hatcheries in the province. There is curiosity
about who is behind the expansion proposals.
