Parmalat Group is buying $1.6 billion worth of cheese business from Kraft-Heinz Canada.
The deal includes Cracker Barrel, P’tif Quebec and Amooza brands.
The Ingleside processing plant, which employs about 400 people, is part of the deal.
Kraft-Heinz is owned by Warren Buffet and his partners, the 3G Group of Brazil, which also bought Tim Horton’s and Popeye’s to add to Burger King.
Parmalat has 16 dairy processing plants and employs about 3,000 people.
Parmalat Canada survived a near-death experience in 2003 when its Italian owners were caught in a multi-billion scam. The Canadian operation was clean and maintained its markets.
