Lone Star ticks show up in Ontario

Veterinarian Dr. Gillian Egil is warning the public that she has found Lone Star ticks on a pet, so they may have expanded their territory into Southern Ontario.

A bite from a Lone Star tick can trigger an allergy to meat.
It can begin within six hours or less of being bitten.

Dr. Egil of Oakridge Veterinary Clinic in London is advising pet owners to check them for these ticks and to gently remove the ticks with tweezers. Nothing else works.
