Veterinarians in Romania have identified 2,685 infected domestic pigs tested between Sept. 18 and Oct. 1, part of a total of 220 outbreaks in Europe, the international animal health agency (OIE) reported.
There are 6,692 pigs that have died in Poland, 554 in Bulgaria, 208 in Serbia and 12 in Russia., the OIE reported.
The European Commission’s Animal Disease Notification System reported a total of 1,908 cases among nine European nations (including Ukraine) between Jan. 1. 2019 and Dec. 31, 2019.
The disease started in China in 2018 and the OIE said it expects the disease outbreaks there will contine. This summer, Rabobank said it believes China’s hog production will be down by 15 to 20 per cent for this year.
