New chicken pricing deal approved

A new cost-of-production formula to price chicken has been adopted as a regulation by the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission.

The commission said its approval comes after the chicken board and the processors association reached agreement.

One change is the elimination of annual reviews.

The system now in effect involved pressure from the commission to include price reductions to reflect volume efficiencies and up-to-date feed conversion performance.

The amendments were developed based on data and information submitted by the Chicken Farmers of Ontario, the Association of Ontario Chicken Processors, as well as information submitted by industry experts and comments received through Ontario's Regulatory Registry,” the commission said on its website.
