Politicians oppose food export restraints

Agriculture ministers from more than 70 countries agreed in an online meeting in late January that there should be no export restrictions on food.

Some countries have been trying to hold on to food during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the agriculture ministers noted that about 40 countries are not able to produce all the food their people need.

They also urged donors to continue making food aid available.

In Canada, there are reports that supplies of canola and wheat are running low because of strong export demand.
