The Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) is getting $4.2 million from the federal agriculture department to reduce farm-related pollution in Lake Erie.
It is a Living Lab – Ontario project financed from a $70-million fund the federal government set up in 2017 and is the fourth Living Lab project in Ontario.
Federal government researchers from several departments will be looking into ways to reduce soil erosion and nutrient runoff. They will share their expertise with farmers across Canada to help accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices and technologies.
The OSCIA will be recruiting farmers and others to run trials on technologies the researchers develop or propose.
