Swine genetics takeover

Fast Genetics, a Canadian-based swine genetics company owned by STgen, has acquired Acuity, an Illinois-based swine genetics company.

Acuity was started by The Maschhoffs, the largest family-owned pork producer in the U.S., with about 180,000 sows.

STgen purchased Fast Genetics in 2015 from HyLife.

Fast Genetics utilizes technologies such as sex-sorted sperm and advanced DNA testing. The company said adding Acuity further increases Fast Genetics’ footprint in the U.S. marketplace.

Acuity has been using estimated breeding values to run commercial operations where the validity of the values can be determined.
