Malathion dodges a U.S. bullet

Malathion has been cleared by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service 10 months after the service said it might be threatening 78 species of plants and animals.

Now it says that while it may still harm them, it is not threatening them with extinction.

Malathion is widely used to control grasshoppers, crop-threatening insects and mosquitos. It has been registered by the Canadian government since the 1950s.
