The federal agriculture department has chosen the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association to deliver its Agricultural Climate Solutions – On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) in Ontario.
Funding will support adoption of beneficial management practices that reduce greenhouse gases and store carbon, specifically for in-field nitrogen management, expanding cover cropping, and implementing rotational grazing practices.
Examples include professional agronomic planning services, nigtrogen fertilizer application equipment upgrades to improve placement and cross-fencing materials to support rotational grazing.
The OSCIA will be hiring Ecological Farmers of Ontario to ensure that marginalized farmers are included.
“Young farmers, women farmers, farmers with disabilities, Black farmers, Indigenous farmers and food providers, farmers of colour, small-scale farmers, 2SLGBTQ+ farmers, and new Canadian farmers often experience additional and unique barriers to enter and succeed in our sector,” said the Ecological Farmers Association.
