Maple Leaf consolidating poultry slaughter

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is planning to consolidate more of its chicken processing to a plant being built in London.

Production at its Bradford and Schomberg plants will be moved to London by the end of next year.

The Schomberg and Bradford plants were purchased from Cericola Farms.

Maple Leaf has other poultry slaughter plants at St. Marys and in Toronto and they were part of the original consolidation plan.

The London plant was scheduled for completion last year, but held up by weather and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maple Leaf said it plans to close the plant at Schomberg and to use the Bradford plant for specialty products.
