Dairy Farmers of Canada is asking the Canadian Dairy Commission for another price increase after an unprecedented 8.4 per cent increase in February.
It cited “exceptional circumstances” but did not say how much it wants.
The Canadian Dairy Commission is consulting stakeholders and will make a decision later this month.
Statistics Canada's Farm Input Price Index indicates fertilizer prices jumped 61.8 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared to the same time a year earlier while feed machinery fuel rose 17.2 per cent and 56.8 per cent, respectively.
That’s what prompted the CDC to hike prices by the most ever in February. That, in turn, led at least one processor to increase its prices for processed dairy products by 15 per cent.
