Chicken demand strengthens

Bouyed by strong demand, chicken farmers are being challenged to boost production by 7.23 per cent in Ontario this fall and by 6.5 per cent nationally.

It is by far the largest production increase and target since before thee COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chicken Farmers of Ontario marketing board said demand is increasing because restaurants are now open and prices for competing meats are high.

The production target of 75.2 million kilograms for Ontario is for the quota period than runs from Oct. 23 to Dec. 17.
