More than one million Americans a year get salmonella food poisoning, 20 per cent from poultry.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service of the United States Department of Agriculture implemented new standards in 2016 and there was a significant decline in salmonella on birds coming into poultry slaughter plants. But there was also a shift to a greater percentage of salmonella resistant to antibacterial agents.
The government is going to open time for consultations about what to do now.
