Genesus Inc., and Can-Am Genetics have been put into receivership by the Bank of Montreal.
The companies are incorporated in South Dakota, but operate out of Oakville, Man.
The receivership began last summer, was stayed in September, but that stay expired Jan. 15.
Genesus claims to be “the world’s largest independent producer of high health registered purebred swine in the world owning over 80 per cent of all registered purebred breeding stock in Canada,” according to its website.
Jim Long of London is the face of the company, posting industry commentaries and invited to speak at pork industry gatherings.
But Long was also in charge when thousands of his pigs were neglected and died on his farm in southwestern Ontario.
