Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is hiving off its pork division as a new company yet to have a name.
The split will be done next year.
Maple Leaf will retain 19.9 per cent of the new company with which it will have a pork supply agreement.
Maple Leaf has a major pork slaughter plant in Brandon, Man., and draws hogs mainly from farms in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, including a number of big ones It owns.
