Maple Leaf Foods Inc. reported a $26.2-million loss for the second quarter which compares with a loss of $53.7 million for the same quarter last year.
Sales were $1,261 million for the second quarter, compared to $1,266 million for the same period last year.
Sales of prepared foods increased approximately one per cent, the company said.
Within the prepared foods division, prepared meats sales increased by 3.2 per cent, but sales of poultry products declined by 3.9 per cent and sales of plant protein products by 2.5 per cent.
Maple Leaf is in the process of spinning off its pork business.
