Alberta delaying carbon pricing

The Pembina Institute said Alberta is dragging its heels on implementing higher carbon pricing agreed to in a memorandum of understanding signed with the federal government in November.

That agreement would increase the price of carbon pollution to $130 a tonne.

The province has also been lagging on building renewable wind and solar energy projects, on tackling methane emissions and on funding carbon capture projects, the institute said.

There has also been no private-sector support for a proposed oil export pipeline to the west coast, it said.

It said the Alberta government is “kicking the can down the road”.
