More than a year after I filed a Freedom-of-Information request for copies of correspondence related to the egg-industry controversy, an
adjudicator for the Ontario Information and Privacy Commission has ruled that
they should be turned over by March 11.
The order is, however, open to an appeal to the courts.
I sought correspondence between the Ontario Farm
Products Marketing Commission and lawyers for the Egg Farmers of Ontario
marketing board, L.H. Gray & Son Ltd., Sweda Farms and whistleblower
Norman Bourdeau.
Somebody – likely Alison Webster representing Gray –
registered a number of objections. They were all dismissed by the adjudicator
except the objection to keep personal information confidential.
I indicated during the mediation and adjudication
process that I have no interest in personal information, but sought documents
which would indicate what was being said about requests that the commission
conduct an inquiry into the Ontario egg industry.
