The Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus is spreading faster
across the United States, setting a weekly record of 265 new cases last week.
It also has a firm foothold now in Ontario where there are
nine confirmed outbreaks on farms and have been three positive tests at
assembly yards and a packing plant.
The toll in the U.S. now stands at 2,962 barns in 23 states
since the virus first showed up in April on a hog farm in Illinois.
Iowa accounts for 35 per cent of the cases.
