GPS tracks beef thieves

Thieves who made off with a tractor-trailer load of beef, pork, salsa and garlic from Brampton were tracked on the owner’s computer because he had a GPS security device installed on the truck.

The thieves were nabbed within the hour.

John Bains of M D Food Transport Ltd. of Brampton installed the security equipment after losing chicken wings to thieves just before Super Bowl, 2013.

As Bains watched, via GPS, the truck’s movements, he relayed information to police.

The tractor and trailer were recovered at different locations.

"It was like the scene out of a movie. I'm on the phone with the police, the communications centre, and there's cruisers — I assume on the way to intercept the tractor trailer," said Bains.

The truck was hauling the food to Costco.

"We installed cameras all over the warehouse as well, inside and outside and I guess the GPS really did help," Bains said.

Two suspects were taken into custody.
