A dairy farmer in
Vermont is facing manslaughter charges because a driver died after
crashing into his escaped bull on a highway.
The farmer was
alerted to the bull being out on the highway, but apparently went
back to sleep. The crash happened 15 minutes after a milk-truck
driver, who recognized the bull running loose, awoke the farmer to
alert him about the escape.
Farmers in the area
are rallying to his defence, packing the courtroom to show support
for the defence lawyer’s claim that a conviction will damage the
state’s dairy industry.
