Glenn Black, the
poultry-industry gadfly from Providence Bay on Manitoulin Island, has
written to the federal Veterinary Drug Directorate with a number of
observations and questions about the ban on arsenic in poultry feeds
that was implemented in 2012.
Among his questions
are ones about imported chicken, both alive and processed. Have they
been raised on feeds containing arsenic? Is anybody checking for
residues?
One question he did
not ask is whether there is any evidence that Canadian health has
improved because of the ban. Nor did he question whether the health
status and feed efficiency of chickens has declined
.
But he has asked
enough questions to keep the feds on their toes. You can check it out at his blog, http://canadiansmallflockers. blogspot.ca .
