The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) has confirmed rumours
that it has hired former U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack
as its president and chief executive officer.
He takes over Feb. 1 and will, no doubt, be aggressively
challenging Canada’s dairy import protection policies and regulations.
"I've spent my career in public service as a tireless
advocate for farmers and American agriculture and can think of no better way to
continue this service than by leading the U.S. Dairy Export Council,"
Vilsack said.
Tackling the Canadian dairy import barriers is one cause on which Vilsack, a Democrat, and Trump and his Republican majorities in Congress and the Senate can enthusiastically agree.
