It’s official. President Donald Trump has pulled the United
States out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade negotiations.
He has also served notice on Canada and Mexico that he
intends to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Trump said he has spoken to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and will soon be
sitting down with them individually.
Trudeau took his cabinet to Calgary for
meetings and NAFTA was on the agenda.
Trump’s team has already said that it
will pressure Canada for better trade terms for dairy and poultry; both are
under supply management and are protected by high Canadian tariffs.
