There
will be no changes to the Ontario portfolio of risk management programs for
2018.
Negotiations
are underway for a new deal and there has been some uncertainty about what will
happen next year.
Ontario
Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal has written to the Grain Farmers of Ontario organization
that he will not be proceeding with interim changes.
“We
support the decision by the minister to leave Ontario’s existing risk
management program in place for the next crop season,” said chairman Mark Brock
of Grain Farmers of Ontario.
“An
interim revision to RMP at this stage would create confusion for our farmer-members
and we are pleased the minister put this on hold.”
Leal
confirmed that his ministry will maintain funding at $100 million throughout
the federal government’s evaluation of the RMP program and any resulting
changes.
