David Colwell, president of JBS Canada whose main holding is the former XL Beef plant in Alberta, is the new chairman of the Canadian Meat Council.
“The staff of CMC is pleased to have someone of David’s immense experience and political acumen to help guide CMC as we work with government and other stakeholders to advance the key interests of CMC’s members” said Chris White, the council’s president and chief executive officer.
Colwell said “I am looking forward to working with the board and CMC as we move forward and look for ways and opportunities to partner and work more collaboratively with other trade associations dealing with the same issues.”
JBS Canada is a subsidiary of JBS USA which is, in turn, a subsidiary of JBS SA of Brazil which has been in trouble over the last year over admissions that the brothers who control it bribed thousands of politicians to obtain government loans that funded the company’s shopping spree for beef-packing companies.
It ended up as the largest beef packer in the world.
