Agrosema has annual sales of about $60 million US from 12 farm centres that employ about 200 people.
Nutrien Ag Solutions already has a fertilizer blending plant in Itapetininga, six other facilities and Agrichem which produces specialty liquid fertilizers in Brazil.
"The Agrosema acquisition is an excellent fit as we continue to build our ag retail business in the important and growing Brazilian agricultural market," said Nutrien chief executive officer Chuck Magro.
"We expect to continue to expand our operations in Brazil in the coming years, both through acquisition and expansion of product and service offerings," he said.
Nutrien is the new name chosen after Saskatchewan Potash Corp., the world’s largest producer of potash, bought Agrium, the world’s largest fertilizer retailer.
