Michael Denys was elected 1st Vice Chair and Ken Hamm was elected 2nd Vice Chair when the board of directors for the Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers Marketing Board met this week.
David Hope is the government-appointed chairman.
Denys has been the on the board since 2017 and farms near Wallaceburg. Hamm has been on the Board since 2018 and farms near Leamington.
Ryan Leclair and Ron VanDamme also joined the board through a new electoral voting process implemented by Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission which used an electoral officer to conduct the district votes for board representation.
Lenders was re-elected and Dan Froese was acclaimed.
Hope said “We have great leadership, skills and depth on this board and have a great deal of work to accomplish to support growers as they deal with the new regulations on tomatoes and carrots.”
The commission took away the board’s role in negotiating contract terms for the two crops so growers and processors can negotiate directly with each other. Growers can, however, opt to have the board negotiate for them.
