China has released a new list of animals it proposes to allow to be raised for meat, and for the first times dogs are not on the list.
There have been some regional bans on dog meat in China, a response to campaigns by animal activists, but this would make the ban national.
Bats and other wild animals are not on the list; bats are believed to be the source of COVID-19.
