The federal and Ontario governments have announced almost $1.8 million in funding for provincially-licensed abattoirs so they can improve safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
About 50 projects have been approved for enhancements to ventilation, refrigeration and process controls; for replacing interior surfaces with non-porous materials and for upgrades to equipment and structures to enhance on-site animal handling and housing.
