Agropur said it will close its fluid milk plant in Winnipeg on Sept. 24.
Twenty-four workers will lose their jobs.
The work will be done at its plants in Edmonton, Victoria and Burnaby, B.C.
“Unfortunately, the level of investment required to maintain the plant’s competitiveness in the coming years was becoming too high,” said Agropur’s chief executive officer Emile Cordeau.
Agropur bought all four plants when Sobey’s bought Canada Safeway’s Canadian supermarkets. As part of the deal, Agropur supplies Sobey’s stores in Western Canada with the Lucerne brand of fluid milk.
