Waterloo case was low-risk avian influenza

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a clarification about a case of avian influenza it listed on its website recently.

It has been determined to be a low-pathogenic strain and not the highly-pathogenic strain that results in depopulations and 10-kilometre quarantine zones.

The CFIA has not said whether the Waterloo flock was depopulated before the true nature of the avian influenza was determined.

Meanwhile it has placed another farm in Wellington County and one in the Halton Region under quarantine for avian influenza. It said both are small flocks.
