Dairy farmers to get more millions

The federal government has announced millions more for dairy farmers – specifically $7.5 million for research and the final instalment of trade-deal compensation that brings that up to $1.2 billion.


on, improve the health and welfare of cows and the quality of milk produced.


The fifth instalment to compensate for the impacts of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) will go to provincial quota holders as of Aug. 31.


Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada will be sending letters to all eligible producers in the fall with the program registration details, with payments to follow once a producer completes registration.


The $7.5 million goes to Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) to help support sustainable development in the dairy industry. It comes from the AgriScience Program – Clusters Component, under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.


DFC is tasked with undertaking research to improve environmental and economic sustainability and resilience of the Canadian dairy industry.
