Tenth anniversary hog jog supports food banks

This year’s 10th-anniversary hog jog will be in support of the Ontario Association of Food Banks.

The five-kilometre walk and jog and the 10-kilometre jog will be June 17 at Stratford in conjunction with the Ontario Pork Congress.

Donors have given close to $300,000 to support charities featured at the previous nine events.

Ontario Pork, with support from industry partners, has also announced a contribution of $40,000 to the Ontario Association of Food Banks, including Stratford House of Blessing.

“Protein is by far the most needed item by Ontario’s food banks,” says Carolyn Stewart, acting director of the Ontario Association of Food Banks “and this could not have come at a better time.

“With many families experiencing increased living costs associated with heat, hydro and keeping warm, food bank use often increases during the cold winter months. “

She said Stratford House of Blessing is no exception, as it works to serve more than 550 individuals every single month, 34 per cent of them children.
