CFFO likely to oppose new highway

The Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario is telegraphing its response to proposals for a 50-km highway from Newmarket to Milton by highlighting the loss of prime farm land.

Its weekly website posting is headlined “Loss of Farmland to a New Transit Route”.

The transit corridor – it is for both public transit and cars and trucks - will “carve its way through good farm land in the greenbelt just south of the Niagara Escarpment,” the CFFO says.

“Reducing the human carbon footprint is part of the planning process. It is expected that the new corridor will open in the year 2031,” the website says, adding that the CFFO is one of a number of organizations the Ministry of Transport has invited to comment.
