The Canadian Food
Inspection Agency has granted approval for Alltech to market an algae-based
feed additive that boosts omega-3 in livestock and poultry.
Docosahexaenoic
acid, or DHA, is an omega-3 fatty acid naturally found in some species of algae
and in fatty fish used for fish oil.
Alltech
says its new product should be of interest to producers seeking premiums for
enriched-foods marketers.
