Canada chooses NAFTA negotiators

Canada has chosen a couple of veterans to lead its negotiating team for the upcoming North American Free Trade negotiations.

Veteran Steve Verheul will head the team. He was chief agriculture negotiator for a number of free-trade negotiations and is thoroughly familiar with Canadian farmers’ interests.

His right-hand negotiator, specializing on the agriculture file, will be Kirsten Hillman who also served as chief agriculture negotiator during the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations.

Both are headed for Washington, D.C., where the negotiations are scheduled to begin the middle of August.
