Eleanor White, a chiropracter from Markham, has been
appointed to a two-year term on the Animal Care Review Board.
Among the board’s responsibilities is dealing with appeals
from actions by the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
(OSPCA).
It has been on the hot seat dealing with a number of
highly-controversial OSPCA disciplinary actions against farmers.
She has also been appointed to the Ontario Fire Safety
Commission which has also dealt with some controversial issues.
It has upheld municipal fire department and municipal
building inspector standards that have made it expensive to bring barns up to
an acceptable standard for hosting parties.
At least three barn owners in Wilmot Township, west of Kitchener-Waterloo, have been forced to abandon long-term gatherings in their barns.
Dr. Jeroen Louwers, an expert in the combustion of
solid propellants and pyrotechnics, has also been appointed to the Ontario Fire
Safety Commission, also for a two-year term.
