The World Trade Organization is due to release its fourth
and final report on the United States Country of Origin Labeling regulations
for meat by the end of the holiday weekend.
Canada and Mexico challenged the Americans for a second
time, leading to another long round of complaints and appeals at the World
Trade Organization.
The original U.S. regulations were deemed to be unfair
protectionism for American beef, hog and other meat producers.
The U.S. amended its regulations after that round of
battling, but in a way that Canada and Mexico claimed made matters worse.
The World Trade Organization ruled again in favour of Canada
and Mexico, the United States again appealed and this is the decision that’s
now promised by May 18.
