Race horses die in fire

More than 40 racehorses died in an overnight barn fire at Classy Lane Stables Training Centre east of Cambridge late Monday night.

About 200 racehorses were in the barns when the fire of unknown origin broke out.

Firefighters from five departments, including Guelph and Hamilton, were called. The standardbred horses raced at some of southern Ontario's best-known tracks including Woodbine, Mohawk and Flamboro Downs.

Barb Miller, who owns the facility with her husband, Jamie Miller, was in Florida and said she’s not sure whether her estimate of 43 deaths is accurate.
