Feds catch five import cheaters

Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAuley revealed this week that five companies have been caught failing to pay duties on dairy and/or poultry products.

The importers claimed they were going to process the imports and export the resulting products, in which case they do not have to pay import duties.

But the federal government said they didn’t export the resulting products, so they now face retroactive duties on the imports.

He didn’t say who imported what, nor how much duties are at issue.

You, the taxpayer, apparently have no rights to this kind of information.

Maybe they were all significant donors to the Liberal Party. Or perhaps to the previous Conservative Stephen Harper team.
